... Cigars and Drinks...Some of my Favorites.

Cigars are tightly-rolled bundles of dried and fermented tobacco that is smoked to enjoy the rich flavors in one's mouth. Cigars are not to be inhaled but savored meticulously to provide not only the taste of the fine tobaccos but a nice feeling of relaxation. Cigar tobacco is grown throughout the world but particularly Puerto Rico, Brazil, Cameroon, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Indonesia, Mexico, Nicaragua, the Philippines, Canary Islands (Spain), and the Eastern United States.

Our Hideout - Maxwell's Cigar Bar, Woodstock, GA

Maxwell's Cigar Bar is one of those places you just walk into and you feel like you are home. I'll bet you all the money in China that if you simply walk in one evening, someone will welcome you, even one of us that just frequent the bar and don't even work there.

The staff at Maxwell's is first rate!

The day guy at Maxwell's is Butch. Butch is a fine gentleman who is know far and wide by his huge smile and signature handlebar moustache. (He used to own/manage Bogey's in TownLake. His passion is not only cigars but making certain you have an enjoyable experience at Maxwell's. He is there from opening until Gerry relieves him in the afternoon until closing. On Sundays, check out Chuck. These fine gentlemen make this cigar bar a home for those of us who are regulars and those just stopping by for a fine stick.

And then there's Harvey, the owner. He even looks like a cigar bar owner! With his plethora of cigar shirts, his fedora and his fantastic smile, Harvey welcomes everyone on Friday and Saturday nights.

My favorite hangout is at the big round table just inside the front door where we always offer seats to anyone that makes their way in. Some Friday nights I have sat there by my lonesome at 7:00 p.m. and by 8:30, the table is full of new friends, who just met that evening. Althought you must be 18 to enter alone, age is not an issue here. We only care about good cigars, good drinks, good music and especially good friends.

Maxwell's Regular Hours are 10:00 am until 11:00 pm Mondays thru Saturday. Sundays, 11:00 am until 6:00 pm.

My Favorite Cigars

First and formost, nearly any Cuban cigar. They are the best cigars in the world. The more you smoke, the more you prove that point. On the last two cruises I brought back a handfull of Cubans and thoroughly enjoyed them rationing myself one every few months.

My favorite Cuban? The world-famous MonteCristo #2 Torpedo. According to Cigar Afficianado Magazine calls this cigar its #1 Cigar in the World for 2013. I believe it!

This is the cigar to which all cigars are compared. This is a creamy, smooth-tasting cigar. It has some hint of salt, and an herbal character. The cigar has a a full draw, but the smoke is papery. It has a woody note. Medium bodied and well made, a retail box can go for as much as $750 in the Caribbean. (Remember we Americans cannot bring back Cuban cigars or othe Cuban products back to the US. - My standard disclaimer - Of course they can be obtained for other sources...)

  • Country: Cuba
  • Filler: Cuba
  • Wrapper: Cuba
  • Binder: Cuba
  • Ring Gauge: 52
  • Length: 6"
  • Size: Torpedo(Piramide)

My favorite non-Cuban cigar? That's easy.

Flor de las Antillas Toro!

This cigar is Cigar Aficionado’s 2012 Cigar of the Year(96)and it shows it! A smooth cigar, it smokes evenly and long. A wonderful after dinner cigar that goes great with a good Scotch or fine Bourbon.

Another favorite is the

Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Champagne.

I bought a box of 20 of this cigar at the Perdomo event at Maxwells' a few months ago. What a great buy! This has become my go to cigar, second only to the Flor de las Antillas Toro. Ranked high by Cigar Aficionado (89), it is a mild, smooth smoke. Another cigar that goes well with a good Scotch or fine Bourbon. This well-made cigar burns well. It has notes of almonds and toast, and remains toasty on the finish. Mild- to medium-bodied.

Entertaiment at Maxwell's Cigar Bar

Not only is Maxwell's a great cigar bar but on many nights, especially Friday and Saturday, it becomes one of the best entertainment clubs in Woodstock! Don't believe me? Stop in and see for yourself.

Friday nights usually find Tony Mele entertaining the crowd. A nationally known singer, he has performed in Las Vegas with Merv Griffin and Englebert Humperdink, as well as such TV standards as Johnny Carson, other late night shows and TV variety shows. His reditions of songs by Frank Sinatra, Three Dog Night and many of the other songs we all grew up listening to are dead on. Tony packs the house each Friday night with folks from far and wide. Let me tell you, this guy is one helluva performer!! When he is in the house, make every effort to come by Maxwell's. You will not regret it.

Saturdays, a variety of acts perform. Stop by and see what's going on.
